SEBI brings together its informal guidance on insider trading
SEBI has published a compilation of informal guidance under the Prohibition of Insider Trading Regulations covering October 2015 to September 2026. It brings together queries, the relevant provisions, summaries of SEBI’s interpretations and links to the original letters. Topics include employee share transactions, contra trades, pledges and trading-window restrictions.
The compilation is a useful reference for directors and compliance officers reviewing personal dealing arrangements or handling questions that arise during leadership changes. The letters respond to particular facts, and the compilation states that the original guidance prevails if a summary is inconsistent with it. It should therefore be used alongside the current regulations and the relevant original letter. Its publication does not itself introduce a new insider-trading rule.
