SEBI has imposed a penalty of Rs. 1 crore on Central Depository Services (India) Ltd. (CDSL) for cybersecurity and operational lapses that contributed to the malware attack of November 2022, which disrupted critical depository operations and affected market settlements. The regulator observed that CDSL failed to adequately secure its critical systems despite enhanced cybersecurity requirements.
