The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has amended the FDI Policy through Press Note 3 (2026 Series) to permit foreign direct investment (FDI) in the inventory-based model of e-commerce exclusively for exports of goods manufactured or produced in India. The policy aims to boost India's exports by enabling global e-commerce companies to hold inventory for export purposes while continuing the existing restrictions on inventory-based e-commerce for domestic retail sales. The initiative is expected to improve global market access for Indian sellers, particularly MSMEs, support the government's export promotion agenda, and help achieve India's long-term export targets.
