The Ministry of Corporate Affairs has announced a significant reorganisation of its regulatory architecture with the establishment of three new Regional Directorates and six new Registrar of Companies, effective February 16, 2026, as part of its ease-of-doing-business initiative.
The restructuring involves splitting existing Regional Directorates and RoCs across the Northern, Western and Eastern regions and creating a new South-Western Regional Directorate headquartered in Bengaluru, with revised territorial jurisdictions aimed at reducing administrative burden and improving regulatory responsiveness. The move is expected to enhance regulatory facilitation, reduce pendency, and provide more region-specific oversight for companies, underscoring the need for boards and compliance teams to familiarise themselves with revised jurisdictions for filings, approvals and regulatory interactions.
